âThe green space has become a place where I find peace, and I want to make sure that everyone has access to this haven for years to come,â said Sébastien Papineau, one of the community volunteers. organizing the competition, in a press release.
The LU Green Space is where residents of Greater Sudbury hike, swim, ski, learn and connect with nature and family throughout the year, said the contest organizers.
However, as part of the Companies’ Creditors Arrangement Act process, Laurentian University is conducting a real estate study that will identify potential opportunities for LU to monetize its assets. This could put the green space in danger of being sold for private development.
Laurentian, which is insolvent, has restructured in an attempt to balance its books.
In response to fears that it will be sold, contest organizers say the community has made it clear that green space is too important to be wasted. The #saveLUgreenspace Photo Contest gives everyone the chance to present their own reason why green space needs to be protected.
