Kromer Cap has announced an open house and a tour of its new factory at 302 Industrial Drive. Kromer Cap had been producing headgear for almost 75 years in Milwaukee, and recently moved to Columbus to its new facility.

The Columbus Journal-Republican celebrated its 115th year of service to the Columbus community. Lowell Larson was the editor of the newspaper.

Columbus City Council met in Committee of the Whole and voted 4-2 to recommend that the city hire an administrator, instead of a public works supervisor, with the proposal presented at the regular city council meeting the next day. .

Miss Columbus, 1980 Mary Kay Walter was named the first finalist in the Miss Columbus USA Pageant held in Columbus, Ohio.

City council discussed a draft proposal that would eliminate dispatchers and the city’s 911 emergency number and join the Columbia County 911 emergency system that would be located in Portage. The dispatcher’s union leader David Brugger questioned the costs and level of service if they were moved to the county.

For nearly a century, children have come to see the historic Ringling Bros. train. and Barnum & Bailey Circus which travels by train from town to town. After an absence of three years, the circus was to appear in Milwaukee. The 47-car circus train was due to pass through Columbus at 4 p.m.
