Bra shopping is a major pain in general, but finding a bra that offers both comfort and support for small breasts can seem like an especially daunting task. The options for smaller breasts tend to be quite limited and finding the right fit isn’t a walk in the park, but the quest for the perfect bra shouldn’t leave your head spinning.

Dora Lau, Founder and President of Dora L International, knows a thing or two about buying bras and she was kind enough to share some of her knowledge with the Shop TODAY team. With her advice (and our product choices!), You’ll be on your way to finding your perfect match in no time.

How to buy bras for small breasts

It is difficult to find a comfortable, comfortable and flattering bra, but it is not impossible and it is worth it. “Women have to find a bra they like. You should think of a bra as an investment piece,” Lau told us.

It’s a common misconception that women with AA or A cups don’t really need bras, but Lau said these unpopular underwear can help women with any bust size. “Gravity is going to be a reality and a properly fitting bra can help prevent stretching and sagging,” she said.

In order to get the best fit for a smaller bust, Lau offered the following tips:

  • Comfort is the key: “A bra should be comfortable and snug when looking at the side profile. Put on the bra, then a t-shirt to make sure the bra looks natural,” she said. suggested.
  • Don’t be afraid of a little padding: “Bras with breathable, supportive, and not too bulky pads are perfect,” said Lau.
  • Pumps are your friends: “For women who have smaller breasts and who wear a padded bra, there is often a gap at the neckline because the chest does not fill the cups. A slight push-up at the base of the pad allows to fill the space. ” she said.
  • Buy strapless bras strategically: “When you need a strapless bra, look for a bra with a firm push-up at the base of the pad and with threads integrated into the pad for extra comfort,” advised Lau.

The best bras for small breasts, according to experts

When it comes to your bra collection, variety is key and it’s a good idea to have several basic styles on hand that go well with particular garments in your wardrobe. These are a few that Lau swears by.

  • Half cup or shelf: “Experiment with different styles of bras like a demi-cup bra or a balconette bra, as these styles are cut lower on the bust and offer a bra,” she said.
  • Push-up bras: “These are popular and can enhance (breasts) by providing support in the fit,” Lau explained.

None of us really like wearing bras, so it helps if you have a little fun with them and wear a vibrant color or pattern. Take this leopard print half cup bra, for example. We’re big fans of the lace side panels and memory foam cups that hug your curves, and we love that we can wear it under a range of tops and dresses.

We might all need a little lift sometimes, and push-up bras deserve a place of honor in your lingerie drawer if you have a small bust. Lively’s floral print push-up definitely speaks to us with its sassy pattern and we also love the fact that it’s cordless.

b.tempt’d by Wacoal Ciao Bella Balconette Bra

SO lace balconette push-up bra

This hybrid style merges two different bras – a balconette and a push-up – into one sleek style. The affordable find has convertible straps, making it a practical and versatile addition to your bra collection, and is available in five colors.

Bralettes for small breasts

Single stitch unlined bralette

Bras that feel great and do good are always OK in our book, so we were thrilled to learn that this one from Single Stitch is made from a soft and durable Tencel fabric. In case you need another excuse to buy yourself a new bralette, a tree is offered to the One Tree Planted association for every purchase on the brand’s website.

Knicky The Tank Bralette

Bralettes should feel like a second skin, and this lightweight design by Knickey certainly does. Double-lined cups ensure a snug fit under clothing, and vertical bust seams help add flotation. Not bad for a bralette, right?

True & Co. True Body Lift V-Neck Bra

It was love at first sight when we first tested a True & Co. comfy bra earlier this year, and we also have nothing but appreciation for this other style of the brand’s bralette. It’s incredibly soft, to begin with, and cordless, so it feels like you’re not wearing anything at all. Finding the perfect fit is also easy, as it’s available in XS-XL, so you don’t have to worry about trying out multiple bracelet and cup sizes.

T-shirt bras for small breasts

Kindly Yours Durable Wireless T-Shirt Bra

T-shirt bras are ideal for small breasts because they provide just enough coverage while feeling like you’re wearing nothing. We’re obsessed with this fuchsia style from Kindly, a new brand that uses plant-based materials to make their underwear. The bra cups are made of candy cane and the straps and elastics on the wings are also made from recycled materials, so you can feel good knowing that you are wearing something that is totally durable.

Maidenform Pure Comfort Wireless T-Shirt Bra

Want to slip into something a little more comfortable than your average baselayer? Maidenform’s T-shirt bra is a worthy option that features foam cups, light padding, and convertible straps. The style comes in multiple colors ranging from black to nude, but our favorite has to be the gorgeous baby pink shade.

Pepper Classic All You Bra

Pepper specializes in bras for small breasts and the brand stands out with this silky soft knit masterpiece. Mesh isn’t just for appearances either; it serves to lift the bust up from below while the shallow cups rest close to the bust for a snug fit.
