LeBron James takes a major step towards a very lucrative NFT world

Los Angeles Lakers superstar LeBron James has done just about everything in what has been an illustrious 19-year career. There is no doubt that this man will go down in history as one of the greatest to ever pick up a basketball.

LeBron is also quite a savvy entrepreneur, with the four-time NBA champion also linked to several highly lucrative businesses in several different fields. Right now, it looks like the Lakers star just revealed his next business venture.

According to trademark attorney Josh GerbenLeBron has filed four new trademarks with the intention of offering them as virtual goods:

It looks like LeBron James is preparing to enter the very lucrative world of NFTs or non-fungible tokens. In their simplest form, NFTs are digital collectibles that can be purchased by anyone. It’s definitely a lot more complicated than that, but what can’t be denied is that this digital move has a ton of earning potential, even for a guy like LeBron.

The NBA and NBPA, for example, have long partnered with NFT pioneer Dapper Labs behind the hugely popular NBA Top Shot NFT platform. Unsurprisingly, LeBron is actually one of the hottest names on the platform with his rarest digital “moment” (a Legendary Cosmic 1 of 49) reaching a market value of over $500,000. It doesn’t look like LeBron is joining NBA Top Shot, with the Lakers superstar seemingly headed towards creating his own NFT brand.

In his trademark application, LeBron requested the use of “shoes, clothing, swimwear, headgear, bags, backpacks, athletic equipment, sporting goods, toys, home furnishings, posters, cards collectibles, headphones, phones, video games, watches, jewelry, accessories, and home decor. He also requested the rights to offer “virtual basketball courts, gymnasiums, and recreational facilities for playing sports in metaverse worlds. and virtual”.

It’s hard to speculate what kind of NFT LeBron intends to deliver, but it’s definitely an exciting prospect for fans everywhere. James is one of the biggest names in all of sports right now, if not the biggest, and his potential move into the NFT space could be one that could change the landscape.
