Lids expands global bricks-and-mortar footprint with first stores in Germany


The lids are expand its retail presence internationally by opening its first stand-alone stores in Berlin, Germany.

  • Alexa Berlin opens June 17
  • Mall of Berlin opens on June 24 and
  • Eastgate Berlin opens on July 1.

Lids is celebrating its German debut after a successful entry into Europe in 2021 with its UK expansion.

Every Lids store has over 1,000 original caps in stock in all sizes, colors and designs and a wide selection of NBA and NFL jerseys, including current and past star players. Merchandise from each store will include American League team merchandise from the MLB, NFL, and NBA, among others, and merchandise from Nike, New Era Cap, ’47, Mitchell & Ness, Hurley, Oakley, and more.

Each store will also feature custom Lids areas, allowing customers to embroider hats and apparel in-store, including from player numbers and retailer autographs.

“With the success we have seen in the UK throughout 2021 and 2022, we are delighted to bring our brand and product to Germany,” said Britten Maughan, Chairman of Lids. “Germany has the largest GDP in Europe and is also a strong market for headwear. Lids stores will carry the most robust product assortment on the market, offering a mix of on-pitch fashion and sports headwear, apparel and memorabilia. Germany has a strong fashion accessories market and a growing affinity for American sports, which are key strengths in Lids’ product offering.

The store openings in Berlin are the first of many planned by Lids in 2022. Germany can expect further store openings in Bremen, Dresden and Hamburg.

Lids operates nearly 1,200 stores in the United States, Canada, Puerto Rico, Mexico and London through its ongoing retail partnerships with Macy’s and Designer Brands. Lids also operates the new NHL Flagship Store in New York and NBA Flagship Stores in New York and London. Lids is the world’s largest retailer of officially licensed and branded headwear, with over 30 million hats sold each year.
