Local church organizing a collection of clothing and school supplies for people in need

GREEN BAY, Wis. (WFRV) – A local ministry is making sure all children have enough clothes and supplies to start the upcoming school year.

Samaritan’s Heart Ministries is hosting a back-to-school event on Saturday, August 13 for families in the Tank and Fort Howard Elementary attendance areas. They are always looking for donations.

“We would like all donations to be collected by July 29, and they would be dropped off at Keller Williams Realty,” Samaritan’s Heart Mission church mission coordinator Nikki Neville said.

The church is always on the lookout for pants, shorts, jeans, leggings, shirts, t-shirts, sweatshirts, sweaters, shoes and more. The organizers remind those interested in donating that they can only accept underwear if they are new.

“When I was talking to the teachers at the schools they said it was just heartbreaking to see the kids on the first day of school when they say get your supplies out and there are a number who don’t have any. not. I just don’t think they should feel that way,” Neville added.

As Neville previously said, donations should be dropped off at Keller Williams Realty, where the company will have a drop box in the lobby.

“Out of hours we have a small space like in our first set of doors where we will also have a box. So literally anyone can drop by anytime, 24 hours a day,” said real estate agent Toni Odgers of Keller Williams Realty.

On August 13, Samaritan’s Heart Ministries will hold their big event, giving away supplies and clothing along with a few other perks.

“On August 13th we will be here at Samaritan’s Heart, we will have people doing free back to school haircuts, we will have dentists who have partnered with us to bring dental supplies to the children, we will be having a clothing drive. As long as they have a child enrolled in Tank or Fort Howard, students who attend those schools will be able to participate in this event,” Neville said.

“I would pray that other churches will take the opportunity if they have not developed relationships with schools in their immediate area. It’s a great opportunity to literally love and serve people in your own backyard,” said Jerry Bader, pastor of Samaritan’s Heart Mission Church. “We strongly believe that people don’t care what you know until you show them you care. You show them you care by loving them and serving them as Jesus did.
