Obituary of Floriann Albert (1936 – 2021) – Forty-Fort, PA

Floriann Jane Albert, 84, formerly of the Miners Mills section of Wilkes-Barre and more recently of Forty Fort, died in paradise in the wee hours of the morning on Tuesday August 3, 2021, while under the compassionate care of the Allied Services Hospice Center, Wilkes Barre.

Floriann was born in Plains Twp. on November 25, 1936, to his late parents, Bolek “William” and Jane Kreger Przystrzelski. She attended St. Joseph’s Elementary School and graduated from Plains Memorial High School, class of 1954.

Floriann started working in the local garment industry and was a member of the International Ladies Garment Workers’ Union. In August 1960, she married her lover, James J. Albert. The newly married couple followed James’ work at General Motors to New Jersey. Soon after, the couple returned to the Wyoming Valley, where Floriann returned to work for Gail’s Dress and other area clothing manufacturers, primarily in the Miners Mills section of Wilkes-Barre where the couple lived and started raising a family with a son, Jim; and a daughter, Jeanne.

She also worked as Dr. Cooper’s office housekeeper, Wilkes-Barre, for 25 years. After the local garment industry declined, Floriann worked in the housekeeping department at Geisinger Wyoming Valley Hospital for 10 years until his retirement in 2001.

Floriann was a devout parishioner at St. Joseph’s Church, Hudson, where she participated in the quilting group, pierogi-making projects, and volunteered for the summer bazaars for many years. She was currently a member of Ss. Pierre and Paul Parish, Plains Township.

Ms Albert enjoyed her retirement with her husband James, attending church and adoring cooking and baking for her loving grandchildren who knew her as “mum” and “grandmother”. They were her world for the past few years and she will be sorely missed.

Floriann was predeceased by her parents; sister, Mary Ann Phillips; and brothers, Stanley and Peter Przystrzelski.

She is survived by her loving husband of 61 years, James; daughter, Jane McCue and her husband, Michael, Forty Fort; son, Jim and his wife, Mary, Eldersburg, Maryland; grandchildren, Alex Albert; Hélène Albert; Émilie Latoski; Eric Latoski; Jack McCue; Evan McCue; and Adam McCue; devoted niece, Barbara Hoover, Trucksville; and loving friend, Ruth McMullen, Pittston.

A Christian funeral mass will be held Saturday at 10 am in the Immaculate Conception Church of Corpus Christi Parish, 605 Luzerne Ave., West Pittston, with Bishop John J. Sempa, pastor, officiant. A visit will take place before mass from 9:30 a.m. until the time of service in the church.

Entombment will follow at Mount Olivet Cemetery, Wyoming.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in memory of Floriann can be made to the American Cancer Society. Please donate online at https://donate3.cancer.org/.

Arrangements have been made in the care of Yanaitis Funeral Home Inc, Plains Twp.
